As our team reached capacity we ended up with an equal split of men and women. When I commented on this one of my canvassers decided this should spark a competition and thus Saturday kicked off the battle of the sexes. Our larger team of 8 canvassers broke off into two teams of four made up of members from the same sex. Our goal was not to put a definitive end to the battle but instead to inspire a spirit of competition between the two groups and in the end canvass all over House Districts 89 and 80.
The end result, not what I would have expected. As an impartial observer I have to admit that I expected a blow out from the ladies, not because I too share their gender but the odds were stacked in their favor. They have a track record of being the highest grossing canvassers add to that the fact that the guys’ team has the newest team members with the least experience it almost didn’t seem like a fair fight. That being said it was a tight competition to the very end.
We had the best results yet with over 300 completed surveys on a sunny day where most of our targets were MIA (probably out enjoying the last few of this summer like weather). Most importantly this occurred while I was out for a seminar. While the Sexes battled, the office ran like a well oiled machine.
In the end the girls squeaked by with a 160-154 win with great efforts on both sides
So as the two teams fought to the death what you might ask was the glorious grand prize??? Pixie Stix…Now and Laters Hershey Kisses and a whole assortment of childhood favorite treats, but my favorite prize was a personal sized bottle of hand sanitizer (it is cold and flu season).
Lessons learned, competition can be a good thing and girls are better than boys…at least this week.
